Four Years Is a Long Time

Prologue

Robin has no self-control. It’s a true fact. And obvious, especially when you’ve known him as long as Beast Boy had. Beast Boy, or Garfield M. Logan, was the first member of Robin’s, or Richard J. Grayson’s, future team.
It had been a couple of years since they formed the ‘Teen Titans’, and they were all good friends. Well, most of them, anyway. Beast Boy and Robin were often rivals, rather than friends.
“Beast Boy, where are you going?”
“Out,” Beast Boy replied, looking back at his leader with a slightly annoyed expression.
“Out where?” Robin asked, beginning to get as annoyed as the green changeling in question.
“Is it just me, or do you think you have to know everything?”
Robin glared slightly, “I just want to know where you’re going.”
“I told you, I’m going out,” Beast Boy’s voice was dripping with annoyance now.
Robin had been particularly annoying lately, especially after Beast Boy’s screw-up. The guy just wouldn’t leave him alone. He seemed to have to know everything about what Beast Boy was doing, where he was going, ect. It was really starting to get on his nerves. And the arguing only made it worse. Every time Beast Boy would try to defend himself, the Boy Wonder would always find a retort. Then the changeling would sometimes answer with a sarcastic reply, other times with a knuckle-sandwich in the other boy’s face. And other times, he wouldn’t say anything, and just leave the room. When he did that, he would go sit on the roof. A few minutes later, Starfire would come up and comfort him as best she could. Sometimes it worked, and he came back inside with a small smile. But not always. Other times, Starfire would come back without Beast Boy, and said teen would sit up there for various amounts of time. Sometimes just a few minutes, sometimes a few hours. When that happened, he would always come back with a sad, lonely expression, and go straight to his room.

Right now, Beast Boy just wanted to take a walk, and clear his head. But apparently, he wasn’t going to do that until the ever-annoying Boy Wonder knew exactly where he was going.
“But where are you going?” Robin asked impatiently.
“Just for a walk, geez.”
“Where to?”
“Friend Robin, he is merely going out for a walk. Can you not do the ‘chilling out’, and let him go?” Suggested Starfire, a little nervously.
“I’ll let him go once I know where he’s going,” Robin replied.
“This is about my mistake, isn’t it?” Beast Boy said, looking both solemn and angry. “It’s about what I did. Robin, you know-“
“’That you didn’t mean to do it’? Beast Boy, I’ve heard you say that before, and-“But Robin, too, was cut-off.
“You think I’m lying, don’t you?”
“Well, just because you say it, doesn’t mean you mean it,” Robin said simply, as if he were having a normal, every-day conversation.
Beast Boy’s eyes momentarily shone with hurt, but it was quickly replaced with anger.
“You know what? All of you have always treated me like shit. Like a pile of crap. What am I, just the moron of the team? The comic relief? The person used as a doormat? Everyone besides Starfire has always treated me like that! And you guys never take me seriously! Sometimes it’s like I’m not even there!
“I’m smart, okay? I am smart, regardless of what any of you think. You’d know that I’m smart if you would just give me a god damn chance! Starfire is the only one who's ever given me a real chance!” Beast Boy did not seem quite done, but he was interrupted before he could say anything else.
“Whoa, whoa, calm down, BB. Listen, if we made you upset, we’re sorry. It’s just all fun and games, man. We don’t mean to be mean.” Cyborg said, trying to pacify the troubled changeling. Needless to say, it didn’t work.
“’Fun and games’? Being mean to me is all just fun and games to you?!” Beast Boy clenched his fists tightly; his knuckles probably would have been a very light green (since they couldn’t really be white) if he hadn’t been wearing gloves.
“Dude, we didn’t know it would upset you so much,” Cyborg replied, looking uncomfortable. He was rubbing the back of his partly cybernetic head with his right arm.
“Well, you guys treat me like a dumbass pile of shit, and now Mr. Boy Wonder here thinks that I purposely tried to kill my friends!” Beast Boy looked close to tears, though there were not any visible tears in his eyes.
“Look, you’re being melodramatic. Stop being so overly-sensitive and start not acting like an idiot,” Raven intervened, annoyed by the arguing. It made her wonder if she’ll ever finish her book.
“Please, friends, let us not argue. Friend Beast Boy, we apologize for any of the hurt feelings that we may have given you,” Starfire said, looking slightly worried.
“You haven’t done anything wrong, Star. It’s just them,” Beast Boy replied, glaring at the other Titans.
“If you’re so mad at us, then why don’t you just leave?”
Everyone looked at their leader’s glaring face, shocked.
“What?” Cyborg asked, an incredulous expression etched onto his half-cybernetic face.
“He heard me. If he hates us so much, then why doesn’t he just leave?”
“But, friend Robin-“
“Fine,” Beast Boy cut Starfire’s words off, startling her.
Robin raised his eyebrows.
“Fine,” Beast Boy reiterated, “I’ll go. I mean, what’s the point of staying somewhere where only one person likes me, anyway?” Beast Boy took out his communicator, and let go of it. It hit the floor with a soft ‘thud,’ and cracked. He didn’t throw it down- he didn’t even stomp or storm out of the room. He just walked out, all eyes on him.
No one moved for a few minutes, eyes still locked on the door. Then, Starfire ran forward, shoved the door open, and ran out.
Cyborg turned to Robin, “Dude! Why’d you do that?!”
“He wanted to, didn’t he?” Robin replied, calmly.

--

Starfire flew around, looking for her green friend.
I hope he is alright…’ She thought.
Suddenly, she spotted a dark green hawk, flying about half a mile ahead of her.
“Friend Beast Boy!” She called out, hoping he would stop. She had to tell him.
The hawk turned its head around, white eyes staring at her for a moment. Then Beast Boy flew down and changed back into his human form. Starfire, too, flew down, and joined him.
“Please, friend, please reconsider!” She said before he could even open his mouth. “Please do not leave! We know you did not mean to do what you did, and friend Robin was merely frustrated at the time. He will do the ‘coming around’ and apologize! And friends Cyborg and Raven are also sorry,” She looked at him with pleading eyes, imploring him to stay. He wondered why.
“Star…I appreciate you coming to look for me, I really do. But…I don’t want to go back. At least, not any time soon. I just need a break. Get away for a while…like a vacation, you know?” Starfire still looked slightly skeptical, so he added, “I promise I’ll come back, okay? I swear. I just need time off for a bit, that’s all.”
“Well…if you say so…But, please, before you go, may I tell you one thing?” Starfire asked, putting her hands behind her back and twiddling her thumbs nervously.
It is now or never,’ she thought desperately, ‘I just hope he does not mind…
“What?” he asked, looking at her quizzically.
“Well…I…um…I guess I…I do not know how to explain it in words…so I suppose I should…show you?” Starfire offered, more nervously than she had intended.
“Uh, sure?” Beast Boy asked, curious. He didn’t think he’d ever seen her like this before.
Starfire took a deep, calming breath (though this action did not help much,) and leaned forward, bending down slightly so that she was eye-level with his large green eyes. What she did next, Beast Boy never would have guessed.
She kissed him.
His eyes widened slightly. He knew he had had a crush on the young Tamaranian for a while, but he never imagined this would ever happen.
She pulled away before he could react.
“I am sorry if I made you uncomfortable, friend Beast Boy. I merely did not know how to explain my feelings, and-“
It’s okay, Star. I’m cool with it. Actually…” He blushed a bit, “I kinda…liked it.”
Starfire blushed as well.
“Um…well…I suppose I should…let you go…”
“Uh…yeah…sure…See you…”
“Yes…see you…” She started walking in the direction of the T-Tower, then ran back and gave the slightly embarrassed green changeling one last kiss- and this time, he responded gratefully.
“I’ll miss you, Star,” Beast Boy said, looking at his long-time crush sadly.
“I shall miss you as well, friend Beast Boy,” Starfire, too, looked solemn. Yet, her eyes shone with a kind of happiness, as well as sadness. Beast Boy hugged her, waved, transformed into a hawk, and flew out of sight. She waved until she couldn’t see him anymore, and then flew off toward the tower, feeling both sad and elated. She had finally transferred her feelings to the green boy, after so long.

Little did they know, that they were being watched the entire time.
“Hmm…this will be interesting, indeed.” A chuckle came from the shadows, and a black silhouette walked in the direction Beast Boy flew in. His plan had now come into action.

When there's trouble, you know who to call: Teen Titans!
From their tower, they can see it all: Teen Titans!
When there's evil on the attack
You can rest knowing they've got your back
'Cause when the world needs heroes on patrol
Teen Titans, go!
With their superpowers they unite: Teen Titans!

Never met a villain that they liked: Teen Titans!
They've got the bad guys on the run
They'll never stop 'til their job is done
'Cause when the world is loosing all control
Teen Titans, go!
1, 2, 3, 4, go! Teen titans!

“Four Years is a Long Time, Part 1”

“Damn it, why can’t they just leave me alone? Oh, wait, of course they don't leave me alone. I'm supposed to be a bad guy.”
Beast Boy ran down the hall, toward the thing that the Bastard wanted him to get. Said “Bastard” was starting to talk to him now.
“Stop talking to yourself and hurry up.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know. Give me a break already, geez,” Beast Boy was annoyed. Simple as that.
“Don't make me tell you again! Stop where you are or we'll shoot!”
“As if it'll make a difference...” Beast Boy whispered. He finally reached the room the 'weapon' was in.
He kicked the door down and ran in. The security officers were firing their guns, and Beast Boy had already been hit a few times. It didn't matter. He could deal with pain, and it wouldn't kill him.
He grabbed the 'weapon', which turned out to be some kind of metal rod. He wondered why it was so important to the Bastard, he had plenty of those. He found that out the hard way.
He didn't have any time to think anything more than that, because the security officers suddenly stopped firing. He turned around, and saw why.
“Put that back,” Robin said, getting into a fighting stance. Beast Boy could have sworn his heart skipped a beat.
Oh crap, not them. I don't want to hurt them...
But he raised the rod anyway, in case the Bastard did something that would make him regret his actions.
Remember, Beast Boy, not a word.”
He went to punch Raven, then,
Yeah, yeah, I know the drill. He sent a telepathic message to the Bastard (A\N: I suggest you listen to You Don't Mean Anything by Simple Plan. It pretty much sums up Beast Boy's feelings toward Slade at this point.)
Well, at least this suit is useful for one thing... (1)
Press the end of the rod, Beast Boy.”
He raised an eyebrow, but did as he was told. Suddenly, what looked like a knife came out of the other end.
Even I have to admit, that's pretty cool, he thought, impressed.
He raised the weapon-turned-spear and decided to go for Robin first. He ran at the Boy Wonder and said boy dodged impressively, but Beast Boy was faster. He quickly had the spear behind Robin and he landed on it. Beast Boy threw Robin off, and he hit the wall with a loud 'thud' and a grunt. Beast Boy turned to Raven, whom had gotten off the floor by now and was in the middle of chanting her usual mantra.
“Azarath, Metrion, Zin-”But Beast Boy cut her off before she could finish. He grabbed her arm, and threw her against the same wall as Robin. She landed on top of him just as he was getting up.
“Oh, you're gonna get it now!” Cyborg yelled, and Beast Boy quickly jumped out of the way of the canon blast. He made a full 360 around the circular room and kicked Cyborg in the head. He fell down and Beast Boy kicked him across the entire room. He then turned to Starfire, whom was getting ready for fighting. (A\N: Lol, the song My Alien by Simple Plan just started playing when I wrote that sentence. XD)
And then Beast Boy realized that he couldn't hurt her, not for the entire universe. To the contrary, he had a better idea.
Starfire?
She blinked, but caught on quickly.
Beast Boy?
Yeah, it's me. He sounded sad.
Beast Boy! Why are you doing these things?
I'm sorry Star, I really am. But...Slade. It's like what happened with Robin. Except, even Robin would have a really hard time getting out of this.
What happened? At the moment, they were fake fighting. They were making it look real, but neither of them were really trying.
The night I left, Slade captured me. He took me to his 'lair' and did some experiments on me while I was unconscious. Don't ask me what he did, because I don't know. But when I woke up, I had new...abilities.
What are these 'abilities', and why did you not return?
Well, I didn't come back because he refused to let me go, and every time I made a good attempt, he would knock me out and return me to my room. And, as for my new abilities, well...I can fly, in case you haven't noticed.
Starfire brought her attention to the 'fight' to see that they were both in the air, and Beast Boy was in his human form. She wanted to say something like 'Very impressive', but he had more to say.
And I have enhanced...everything, basically. Enhanced hearing, sight, smell, touch-
I thought you already had that?
Well, yeah, but even more so, now. And I have enhanced speed, agility, metabolism-
What do you mean by that?
I mean, I can heal from certain wounds almost instantly. If they're more severe injuries, then it takes a bit longer, but you see my point, right?
Yes.
And...I'm...well...
Yes?
I'm immortal.
... Starfire looked almost shocked.
So, basically, I'm an immortal superhuman.
So...you cannot die?
Nope. And, to tell you the truth, that kinda sucks.
How so?
Because I'll outlive all of my friends...
I see...
Oh, I'm also a lot stronger. And, if I come into contact with someone or something, my suit allows me to use their abilities, too.
What do you mean?
Let me touch you.
She did. He touched her arm gently, and then pulled his hand away. Then, his hand started glowing green, as well as his eyes, and he shot a starbolt at the wall.
Amazing...
Yeah. That's how I'm using telepathy. I stole it from Raven.
He then used Raven's telekinesis to raise a cement block, and throw it half-heartedly at Starfire. He missed on purpose.
-
“Ow...” Robin groaned.
“Sorry, Robin,” Raven helped him up. But then Cyborg came scooting across the room, and they just barely got out of the way in time.
Instead of bumping into Robin and Raven, Cyborg crashed into the wall.
“Ouch...” He got up, and they saw the 'villain' fighting with Starfire. They seemed evenly matched.
“Wow...we get our butt's kicked, but Star's doing fine...” Cyborg said, looking half-surprised, rubbing the back of his partly cybernetic head.
“Who is that, anyway?” Robin grumbled.
“Oh stop being such a sore looser, Robin,” Cyborg said, nudging Robin's arm.
Then, the guy touched Starfire's arm, then pulled his hand back and shot a starbolt into the wall.
“...How'd he do that?” Robin turned to Raven.
“How should I know?” Raven asked.
“Gooood point...”
But then the guy's hand started glowing black, and he consumed a cement block in the black energy and threw it at Starfire. It missed.
“Well...at least it missed,” Cyborg commented.
-
If you are so powerful now, why did you not escape?
Because...you know how I said that it was like what happened to Robin?
Yes. But no beam of light hit us, so there should not be any of the probes in our bodies.
No, it's not probes this time. It's liquid.
Liquid?
Yeah. He put something in your drinks a couple days after he captured me. He said it does the same thing that the probes do, but it's not nearly as easy to remove.
I see.
And this time, there's no machine. Only a detonator button. So I can't do the same thing Robin did. If I disobey him, or try to leave, he'll kill you guys. And I don't want that to happen.
Oh...I see... Starfire looked sad, as well as Beast Boy.
We can stop fighting, now. Just do what I tell you to, okay?
Um, alright...
I want you to throw me out the wall, and then I'll run away.
What?!
Starfire, I'm immortal, remember?
But...Beast Boy...it will hurt you!
It's alright. I've dealt with pain for the past four years, and before that. I think I can handle being thrown through a wall. Please? And then I'll try as hard as I can to stay out of your way, so we don't have to fight, okay?
Well, alright...but, please, let us try to help you?
I don't know if you can, Star.
But may we try?
Just...don't get hurt, okay?
Okay.
I'd kiss ya', but the Bastard's watching.
Starfire blushed a little.
T-the “Bastard”?
Slade.
Oh, I see. Well...good bye, Beast Boy.
Bye, Star. For your sake's, let's hope we don't meet again any time soon.
Starfire shot a starbolt at him, and he flew through the wall, smiled, and winked
The others ran over to her.
“Are you alright?” Robin asked, looking concerned. “That took a while.”
“I am fine, Robin,” She said, “But I must tell you something.”
“He's gone!' Cyborg yelled from the hole in the wall.
“Yes, I know,” Starfire said, twiddling her thumbs.
Everyone stared at her.
“You see, I know who he is,”
“Well, who was he?” Robin asked.
“It was Beast Boy,” Starfire replied, with a straight face.
Everyone's faces were incredulous.
“What?” Robin asked, eye twitching ever-so slightly.
“Yes, it was Beast Boy. But,” She cut Robin off before he had a chance to speak, “he is not evil! He explained to me what happened to him, and why he is working for Slade.”
“Well, spill the beans,” Cyborg said, looking interested.
Starfire looked at him, confused.
“I mean, tell us,” Cyborg corrected himself.
“Oh, well, he said that it is like what happened to Robin, except it is a lot harder,” She explained. “You see, Slade put some sort of liquid in our drinks a couple of days after Beast Boy left, and it is inside of us right now. Beast Boy said that if he disobeys Slade, then Slade will kill us, and Beast Boy does not want that to happen.”
“So, BB is fighting us...to protect us?” Cyborg asked.
“Yes. And Beast Boy gave us permission to try to help him, as long as we do not get hurt,” Starfire said.
“And, how exactly did he tell you this without Slade knowing?” Robin asked, raising an eyebrow.
“His suit allows him to copy abilities from other people if he comes into contact with them, so he now has the power of telepathy.”
“So that's how he used my powers...He grabbed my arm, earlier,” Raven said.
“Hey, wait a minute, that reminds me...if that was Beast Boy, then...he was...FLYING!?” Cyborg yelled.
“Yes, because he touched both me and Raven,” Starfire confirmed
.
“So, that's also how he shot that starbolt?” Robin suggested. Starfire nodded.
“And he only told you this, because?” Raven asked the inevitable question. That got Starfire nervous. She didn't want Robin to be angry.
“He...he...” She gulped.
“'He'...?” Robin prodded.
Starfire sighed. “He loves me, and he couldn't hurt me. And I feel that he needed to tell me.”
“Yeah, I thought so,” Raven said, smirking slightly.
“....He what?!” Robin yelled, eye twitching.
“Beast Boy loves me,” Starfire repeated.
“Okay, screw helping him, I'm gonna kill him next time I see him!” Robin ranted, fuming.
“Robin, please, stop! This is why I didn't tell you...,” Starfire said, worried for Beast Boy's well-being.
“You love him too, don't you?” Robin accused. If he didn't have his mask on, his eyes would have shone with hurt.
“...Yes...” Starfire admitted. She could no longer hide it. Beast Boy loved her. She loved Beast Boy. And Robin would just have to accept that.

Beast Boy ran back to Slade's 'lair' at breakneck speed. He was thinking about his ingenious interaction with Starfire. He could easily keep in contact with them that way, thanks to Raven. He would find Raven and Starfire's powers very useful soon. He didn't know how, or when, but he knew that it was true.
He entered the 'lair' and walked up to a shadow-covered man. Beast Boy pressed the end of the spear again, and it turned back into a rod.
“Well, here's your weapon.”

“That's my boy.”
Slade took the spear, which was back in rod-form, and swung it around a little.
“Need anything else, you're Majesty?” Beast Boy asked sarcastically
“Watch your tongue, boy. You know the consequences,” Slade replied in his usual monotone, looking up- or, should I say, down -at him. It almost made him feel like a little kid who's done something he's not supposed to.
He looked at the floor and muttered an apology. “And I'm not a little boy anymore...I'm twenty, for god's sake!”
Beast Boy suddenly found himself on the floor with a headache. He brought his hand to his aching head and looked up at the Bastard.
“Like I said, watch your tongue,” His monotone now had a warning edge to it, and it would have scared him. That is, if he hadn't been accustomed to it. But he had been introduced to that tone many times in the past four years and, while it was still intimidating, it no longer scared him. Which was a good thing, because being afraid of him only made it worse for Beast Boy, and better for him. And he did not want that to happen. Beast Boy had been taken advantage of enough times in his life, and, quite frankly, he was sick of it. So, if Slade ever does scare him, he hides it. And he hides it well.
So Beast Boy just stared at him blankly, then sighed, knowing he expected him to say something. “Yeah, yeah, whatever.”
At least he didn't have to be as careful as he used to be, now that he had the use of telepathy. If Bastard went after the Titans, or sent someone after them, he could easily warn them. The only thing he had to worry about was that detonator button.
“You have done what has needed to be done, Beast Boy. You may go to your room, now,” Slade brought him out of his musings, and Beast Boy looked back at him.
“Alright.”
He got up off of the floor and walked out of the room.

-________________________________________________________________________-

Beast Boy laid on his bed and put his hands under his head, knees sticking up.
He wondered what the Titans were up to.
Well, there's nothing else to do... He thought. He closed his eyes and concentrated on the T-Tower. Using Raven's powers was surprisingly easy, if he did say so himself.
Almost immediately he felt as if he were actually in the tower, even though he was only there with his mind. He looked around and saw Robin sitting on the couch, flipping through TV channels. Beast Boy considered leaving him alone, but he needed to know about the others.
Robin?
The Boy Wonder started and, despite the fact that the voice had been in his head, looked around.
Robin, I'm in your head. Don't talk out loud, they'll think you're even more crazy then you are.
Beast Boy?
Yes.
... Robin twitched.
What?
You...you're in love with Starfire...
Yeah, so what?
And...she loves you to...
You got a problem with that?
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do.
Well, too bad. Beast Boy would have stuck his tongue out at Robin if he had actually been present in the tower.
What do you want, Beast Boy?
I need to know if you've at least found the liquid yet? Assuming, of course, that Starfire told you what I told her.
Yeah, she told us. Cyborg found the stuff, and he's working on getting it out right now. He said not to bother him, which is why I'm in here.
I see...
Why?
Because, if you guys can remove that liquid, then I'm free to kick Slade's ass like it's never been kicked before, and do it well. And, I don't know about you, but that sounds really appealing right now.
It sounds appealing to be too, but you're going to have to be patient. Cyborg is working as hard as he can, but he says he's not sure if he'll be able to get this stuff out of us. And, if he does, it'll take a while.
Right...
When I left the room he was trying to identify the liquid.
Oh, I can help with that!
Oh, really?
I know the name of the stuff and where it comes from.
... Robin looked surprised.
I've been doing some research on the stuff.
Well, tell me what you can.
Beast Boy took a deep breath.
-
Starfire sat on the roof of the T-Tower, thinking about her green friend.
She sighed. I do hope that we can help him soon...
She heard the door open, and looked around.
“Hello friend Raven!” She said, smiling.
“Hi,” Raven replied, and sat next to the troubled Tamaranian. “You're thinking about Beast Boy?”
“Yes...” Starfire answered, looking at her knees. “You knew of my feelings for him?”
“Yeah. Actually, Beast Boy had feelings for you before you had feelings for him,” Raven said, thoughtfully.
Starfire didn't know what to say. But then her thoughts went to Robin and his reaction to the fact that Beat Boy and she were in love.
“Robin is...displeased,” she said sadly.
“That doesn't matter. The only that thing matters is if you and Beast Boy are happy. Are you happy to be in love with him?” Raven asked.
Starfire thought about that for a minute. “Yes, I am.”
“And so is he,” Raven said, looking at Starfire seriously.
“What do you mean?” Starfire asked, confused.
“His love for you is not just a phase, like it was with me and Terra. No, his love for you is real and genuine. That's probably why he couldn't bring himself to hurt you,” Raven explained.
“I see... I really want to help him. He must be miserable with Slade...”
“Yeah, we all want to help-” Raven was interrupted by Robin opening the door.
“We've got a good idea on how to help Beast Boy,” He said.
“Really?!” Starfire exclaimed, excited. (A\N: I suggest you listen to I'd Do Anything by Simple Plan, now. ;))
“Yeah. He just contacted me, and told me a lot of useful info on the stuff inside us,” He explained.
Starfire beamed, elated that they might just be able to rescue their friend. She rushed past Robin and ran in the direction of the room Cyborg was in.
Robin raised an eyebrow. “Well, she seems eager...”
“Of course she is. This is a possibility of helping Beast Boy we're talking about here,” Raven replied in a matter-of-fact tone.
Robin shrugged, and followed the excited alien, gesturing for the half-demon to follow. She did, and they joined Cyborg.
“So, what have we got?” Raven asked.
“A possible way of getting this liquid-stuff out of our bodies,” Cyborg said. “Thanks to BB, I know what that stuff is now, and there is a way to get it out. It's not exactly easy, but it's not really hard either.”
“What is it called?” Raven asked, eying Cyborg's findings on the screen.
“It's called Veraserum(1),” Cyborg answered. He typed a few keys on the keyboard, and another screen appeared. (Think the screen in Apprentice Part 2).
“See that dark brown stuff?” Cyborg asked, pointing to it.
“It almost looks like Coke,” Robin commented, looking at it closely.
“I know. I'm pretty sure that they picked that color so it would blend in with our drinks.”
“How do we get it out?” Starfire asked.
“Well, anyone want a shot?” Cyborg pulled out a needle, the kind you would find in a doctors office when they were going to give you shot.
Robin groaned, Raven raised an eyebrow, and Starfire looked confused.
“I'll start with myself,” Cyborg said, and stuck the needle in the part of his arm that was actually skin. He winced slightly, but that was all before he pulled it out. “Now, there's no guarantee that it'll get rid of this stuff permanently, but it'll get rid of it long enough for BB to defeat Slade.”
“As long as it gives Beast Boy a chance, I will do it,” Starfire said, confidently.
Cyborg filled the needle again, and Starfire gave him her arm. He injected her with the substance.
“Well, you're done. Who's next?”

-

After Beast Boy told Robin everything he could about the Veraserum, he took a nap, for lack of better things to do.
However, he was quickly shaken out of his dreams by Slade's monotonous voice.
“Wake up.”
“Nhnn...what?” Beast Boy rolled onto his back and looked up at Slade's mask-covered face.
“I have a mission for you,” He stated simply.
Beast Boy got up and followed Slade into what Beast Boy called the 'main room'.
“What do you need me to do?” Beast Boy asked, curious.
“First, here,” and the rod Beast Boy stole the other night came flying toward his head at breakneck speed.

Beast Boy caught the rod easily with one hand.
“Gee, try to kill me, why don't you...” He mumbled
“Impressive,” Slade commented.
“Yeah, whatever. So, what do you want me to do?”
“I am making a...weapon, of sorts. But I don't have a power-source. There is a new, blue diamond in the jewelry place downtown that is just what I need. I want you to get that for me,” Slade explained.
“And, I don't suppose you're planning on telling me what this weapon is?” Beast Boy said.
“No. Not yet, at least,” Slade answered.
“That's what I thought,” Beast Boy said, slightly glowering. He needed to tell the other Titans about this, because this 'weapon' could very well endanger all of them.

“Four Years is a Long Time, Part 3”

Beast Boy?
Beast Boy started. Since he didn't have to do the mission until tomorrow night, he went back to his nap. Well, almost.
Raven?
Yeah.
What do you need?
We injected us with what Cyborg says will get rid of it long enough for you to get out of there.
Is that so?
Yes, so get your butt over here!
Beast Boy thought for a moment.
How long will this thing work?
Cyborg doesn't know for sure. A long time, if not for the rest of our lives.
For the rest of your lives seems very unlikely.
I know.
So, he just said it'll last a long time?
Yeah.
Can you guys wait until tomorrow night? I'm going to that jewelry place to steal a blue diamond. Slade says he needs it for some kind of weapon, but he didn't tell me anything more than that. You guys can meet me there, we'll pretend to fight while actually having a telepathic conversation-
Wait, how would that work? We're the only ones who can use telepathy.
Wow, it looks like I know more about your power than you do. I can keep all of them in contact, and we'll all be able to hear each other in our minds.
Well...that's...interesting.
Yeah. Anyway, we'll talk things over, then you guys pretend to be defeated, then follow me back to Slade's place. But don't come out until I tell you to, okay?
Okay.
And then we'll all kick Slade's ass into next century.
Heh. Alright, sounds like a plan. I'll tell the others.
See you tomorrow night.
Right. He felt Raven leave, and turned on his side. Now he actually had a reason to look forward to tomorrow night.
Thank god I'm a good actor... he thought.
-
“Well, what'd he say?” Robin asked.
“Why are you so eager?” Raven asked him, an eyebrow raised.
“Hey, just because I'm jealous doesn't mean he's not my friend...” Robin defended, crossing his arms.
Raven rolled her eyes. “He established a plan.”
“What is it?” Cyborg asked.
“Tomorrow night, Slade wants him to steal a blue diamond for a 'weapon.'”
“What weapon?” Robin asked, curious. What could Slade be up to?
“Neither Beast Boy nor I know. Slade never said. But we're going to meet Beast Boy at the jewelry place tomorrow night, and he and I are going to make it so we can all have a telepathic conversation.”
“So, we'll all be talking in our heads?” Cyborg asked.
“Basically. We'll be pretending to fight, so Slade doesn't get suspicious, and we'll talk things over. Then we're going to pretend to be defeated, let him get the diamond, then we follow him to Slade's 'lair'. He'll tell us when we can come out, but not until then.”
“How do we know this isn't a trap?” Robin asked suspiciously
“Robin, how could you say that?!” Starfire scolded. “Beast Boy is our friend! He would do no such thing!”
“Star, he's been working for Slade for the past four years-”Robin was cut-off.
“But he does not wish to! He told me himself.”
“He could have been lying...” Robin reasoned.
“Dude, why are you suggesting this now?” Cyborg asked.
“Just think about it. He'll talk to us, then he'll 'pretend' to win, take the diamond, and go back to Slade! It doesn't matter if we follow him or not! We can't beat both of them. And if he only wants us to come out when he wants us too...that just makes it even more suspicious!”
“Beast Boy would not do such things! And he would not lie to me!”
“Robin, Starfire's right. When has he ever lied to us? And besides, if it were a trap, don't you think I would be able to tell?” Raven said, giving Robin a stern look.
“I'm with Rae,” Cyborg said.
“Alright, you have a point, but I'll be cautious all the same,” Robin huffed and crossed his arms again.
-
Tomorrow Night
-
Beast Boy ran on top of buildings at more-than-breakneck speed toward the Jewelry Store where he would meet his friends. He had watched them after Raven left, and Robin's words hurt him a bit. But he could live with it. He had dealt with things much worse than that.
Sticks and stones may break your bones, but words will never hurt you. He thought with a light laugh.
He reached the store and got himself inside. He found the room with the diamond soon enough.
He edged closer, closer, closer...
You ready? Raven's voice sounded in his head.
Ready when you are. He answered.
The Titans opened the door and Beast Boy turned sharply, seemingly surprised.
Remember, Beast Boy. Not-”Slade was cut-off
Not a word, I know.
He rushed forward, and concentrated on all of the other Titans.
Can Everyone hear me?
Yeah. Raven answered.
Dude, this is weird... There was Cyborg.
Here. Robin.
I am also present. Starfire.
Good, we're all here. Beast Boy said, smiling. They engaged in fake-battle.
Dude, you're good even when you're not trying...How'd you get so good? Cyborg asked,
Eh, practice makes perfect, I guess. Beast Boy said, shrugging ever-so slightly.
So, what's the plan? Cyborg asked, throwing a half-hearted punch at Beast Boy, who dodged with ease.
Basically, we're gonna do this for a bit, then I'm going to pretend to beat you guys, then take the diamond. You guys are gonna follow me back to Slade's place, and come out when I tell you to. And, Robin?
Yeah?
I promise this isn't a trap, okay?
Robin looked guilty. R-right...
Anyway, once you guys come out, we're gonna kick some black and orange ass, 'kay?
Everyone tried to stifle a laugh, and agreed.
Okay guys, I'm gonna half-heartedly blast you. Pretend to be unconscious until I tell you to follow. You know what to do after that.
Okay. Raven.
You got it. Cyborg.
Just don't hurt us too badly... Robin.
Good luck. Starfire.

Beast Boy's hand glowed green and he shot a couple starbolts just right, so that they were thrown back, but not anything more serious. Then he grabbed the diamond and fled.
Okay guys, come on. He ordered. They did so, and followed him.

As they neared Slade's 'lair', Beast Boy told them to hang back a bit and stay hidden.
“I got your diamond. Now, tell me about the weapon,” Beast Boy demanded as he handed the diamond to Slade.
“Well, I suppose you deserve it now,” Slade said, sounding impressed. “Particularly because you defeated the Titans.”
“Eh, it was easy,” Beast Boy said, looking proud of himself.
Slade typed something into his big computer, and a diagram of a gun showed up.
“...That's one big-ass gun you got there,” Beast Boy commented. And, indeed, it was. It was about the size of Cyborg's entire arm. “What do you plan on using it for?”
“It's not just a gun, Beast Boy. It opens up doors to other worlds. I'm planning on bringing a few...friends to this world, to help me,” Slade explained.
“Unless, of course, someone interrupts your work,” Beast Boy said in a strange voice.
“What do you mean?” Slade turned to him.
“Because...” Now, guys. “I brought friends of my own.”
And Robin, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire came out of their hiding place.
Slade brought the detonator out.
“Do you really want to do this?”
“Just go ahead, try,” Beast Boy provoked.
Slade pushed the button.
Nothing happened.
“Titans, GO!” Beast Boy yelled, and they attacked.
Slade was surprised and overwhelmed. And, with Beast Boy, the Teen Titans defeated Slade, and defeated him good.

--

Beast Boy yawned, and looked at the person, or alien, sleeping next to him.
“Star, wake up,” He whispered lovingly.
“Nhnn?” She looked at him sleepily. “Okay...” She sat up, yawned, and stretched.
Beast Boy leaned over and kissed her passionately. She responded just as passionately.
“I love you, Starfire.”
“I love you too, Beast Boy.”
They smiled at each other and got out of bed. After getting dressed, they headed to the living room.
“Morning.”
Beast Boy looked around at the salutation, saw Robin, and smiled.
“Morning, Rob,” Beast Boy joined his leader on the couch.

It had been about a week since they finally got Beast Boy back, and it was already like he never left.
Starfire walked into the kitchen to get some breakfast. But before she opened the fridge, she put her hand on her stomach. She smiled at the something that her and Beast Boy had created the night after he came home. She planned on telling him about it soon, but not just yet. She wanted to surprise him at just the right moment.
She pulled out a bottle of water, closed the fridge, and sat with the boys.
She still had around nine months to tell him. She was sure he could wait a couple more days, until Valentine's Day.
Until then, she would keep her pregnancy a secret from everyone except Raven, whom had found out before Starfire herself did.
Things were going to get better, she hoped. All she had to worry about was Beast Boy and Robin's reactions. She giggled every time she thought about it. It would be funny, that much, she was sure of.
